AI Manga Harness — Giving Creators Control Over AI Manga Creation

AI can generate beautiful images in seconds. But creating a manga is not the same as generating a collection of images.

A manga needs consistent characters, reusable assets, backgrounds, poses, expressions, dialogue, panels, composition, and — most importantly — creative control.

That is why I built AI Manga Harness.

AI Manga Harness is a browser-based, AI-native manga creation environment designed around a simple idea:

AI creates the assets. You direct the manga.

Instead of asking an AI to generate an entire manga page and hoping it gets everything right, AI Manga Harness treats characters, poses, backgrounds, props, effects and tones as reusable creative assets.

Creators can generate them, keep them in their project library, place them into panels, rearrange them, add dialogue and continue editing their manga.

The goal is to combine the flexibility of a visual editor with the speed of generative AI.

More than an AI image generator

Most AI manga workflows still revolve around repeatedly prompting an image model.

AI Manga Harness takes a different approach.

A character can exist as a persistent asset with multiple poses and expressions. Backgrounds can be reused. Manga effects and tones can be added independently. Panels remain editable rather than becoming one flattened AI-generated image.

The project also includes a Manga Agent.

Instead of manually performing every operation, creators can describe what they want to happen and let the agent help plan and execute those operations using the same underlying editor.

For example, a creator might describe a student arriving at school. The system can prepare the character, generate the required assets, compose the panel and leave the resulting elements available for further editing.

The creator remains the director.

Where the project is today

This is not a concept waiting to be built.

A working version of AI Manga Harness already exists.

The core editor, reusable asset system, character workflow, AI generation pipeline and Manga Agent have been implemented. The project has also undergone extensive automated testing and a dedicated security review.

I have been developing, testing and rebuilding parts of the architecture as the project evolved. Much of the difficult engineering work required to prove the idea has therefore already been completed.

The project is now entering final testing and launch preparation.

There are still features I want to improve after launch — particularly more advanced camera and composition controls — but I do not want to delay the core product indefinitely while chasing every possible feature.

The purpose of this campaign is to help turn the working prototype into something creators can confidently use.

Why I care about this

I am an independent creator and product builder based in Melbourne.

I became interested in a problem I kept seeing with generative AI: the models were becoming increasingly powerful, but creative workflows often gave people less control rather than more.

Generate. Regenerate. Prompt again. Hope the character still looks the same.

I wanted to explore a different relationship between creators and generative AI.

Not:

“AI, make my manga for me.”

But:

“These are my characters. These are my assets. This is my story. Help me build it.”

That philosophy became AI Manga Harness.

What your support makes possible

The core system has already been built largely through my own time and resources.

The AU$5,000 campaign goal is intentionally modest. I am not raising money to build an enormous company before the product exists.

The funding will be used to finish testing, improve reliability and usability, cover infrastructure and AI-generation costs, prepare documentation and onboarding, and support the first public release.

Backers are therefore helping fund the transition from working software → tested creator product → public launch.

AI Manga Harness is also being developed as an open-source project. I want creators and developers to be able to understand how the system works, experiment with it, and help shape where it goes next.

The bigger idea

Generative AI should not have to replace the creative process.

It can become part of the creative toolkit.

My goal is to build a manga environment where AI handles repetitive generation work while humans continue making the decisions that actually define a story.

AI creates the assets.
Humans direct the story.
The creator remains the author.

If that sounds like the future of creative AI you want to see, I would love your support in helping bring AI Manga Harness through its final testing and into the hands of creators.

Budget Overview

The AU$5,000 goal is focused on finishing and launching an existing product rather than funding development from zero.

The largest allocation will support AI generation and real-world testing across different creator workflows. Funding will also cover hosting and infrastructure during the initial launch period, final QA and security work, UX improvements, documentation and onboarding materials.

A smaller portion will support launch materials and unexpected infrastructure, platform or payment costs.

Development of the core system has already been funded through my own time and resources. This campaign is intended to provide the final push required to test, polish and release AI Manga Harness to its first community of creators.
