Patter is No Typewriters / No Talking’s very own literary journal.
Its mission is simple: publish local folks who make the effort to write a thing.
For our first ever issue, we have works from
- Jelena Potpara
- Gerard Daley
- Sage S Harvey
- Stephanie Powell
- Elliot Senftleben
- Georgia Knox
- Flames Davidson
- Lee Crawford
- C R Powell
- Mark Perry
- Katy Sylvia
- John Harland
Including poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, there is something for everyone in Patter.
You can find out more about Patter here.
The issue also includes illustrations by Brunswick-based artist Jo Waite, who has lovingly doodled a doodle for every piece. Some of these original artworks are available as rewards!
Design is almost complete and we're looking to cover the printing costs

What it will look like
Patter's cover was designed by long-time friend and collaborator Rory Harnden, who, while he hasn't been to a No Typewriters / No Talking session physically, has been to many spiritually.
Layout of the internals has primarily been done by Editor-in-Chief Jackson Wood, with support from Rory. See example below.
The physical copies will be perfect bound and printed by The Printing Hub.
Expected delivery date will be late October / November 2025. We will have a launch party before/during/after a No Typewriters session.
About No Typewriters / No Talking
No Typewriters / No Talking has two rules, they’re in the name.
Writers of any stage, genre, format, or style are invited to come work together for one hour in a shared space.
You can write with anything: biro on notepad, fingers on laptop — just not a gosh darn typewriter.
During the hour of writing there is no talking. Coming together for one hour of shared sustained silence is a simple ritual that will help us concentrate on the thing we want to do (but find many reasons not to), write.
Since its first session in early 2023, more than 300 writers have written more than a million words at our events.

Budget Overview
We are seeking to cover printing costs + pay each of the authors as per the nitty gritty details here.
Costs will be variable depending on how many people pledge.
Any extra funds will go to the No Typewriters / No Talking slush fund which will be used to do this again next year, buy new tables for events, and otherwise generally support our work.
