Plank Production desk

Dimensions: 1580mm Length / 860mm Height / 920mm Depth

The Plank Production desk. Designed with and for audio professionals. 

Created from reclaimed timbers and Birch Ply (FSC). With ample inbuilt rack space for outboard gear either side, this desk will be the creative heart of your studio set up.   

With 4 reclaimed timber options available, each a limited run. As it is reclaimed timber, each piece will have it's own character (we think this is a good thing). With this in mind, please take the photos as a timber guide rather than gospel. 

The birch ply body can be finished either natural or stained black. Osmo hardwax oil finish is used on all Plank Audio products. This is a hard wearing non toxic wax oil finish.

The desk itself flat packs to make moving easier (moving is never easy).

Add a desk fill panel for additional work surface between the two rack modules.

Each Plank production desk is made in Melbourne, Australia.

The Story so far...

Plank Audio has been created by sound engineer Aaron Dobos and designer Tim Denshire-Key. The idea for Plank began when Aaron was looking for a mixing desk for his new studio. Unable to find something to suit his needs he turned to designer and furniture maker Tim, to assist.

Together they created a desk, and the idea was born to create a range of furniture tailored to audio production needs.

The outcome is Plank Audio.

Aaron Dobos is an independent music producer, mixer and engineer based in Melbourne.

Starting in 2010, Aaron cut his teeth at Melbourne’s renowned Sing Sing Studios. There he helped produce music by The Avalanches, Spiderbait, Kimbra, Amanda Palmer and more. Aaron also worked with producers such as Grammy- winner John Congleton, five-time ARIA winner Paul McKercher, and award-winning composer Franc Tetaz.

Aaron soon moved to engineering and producing in his own right. He has worked with everyone from local indie acts like Squid Fishing, Picket Palace and Big Words to Aussie mainstays like British India, Spiderbait, and Ceres, as well as doing regular work for TV shows.

In 2016 Aaron began renting a studio at Sing Sing and won the prestigious Unified Grant. In 2019 Aaron was awarded a Creative Victoria Music Works Grant for Professional Development and spent 5 weeks in Los Angeles learning from several notable Producers and Engineers.

Aaron is passionate about making great sounding music accessible to everyone and is furthering this through his collaboration with Tim Denshire-Key to design a range of recycled timber studio furniture.

Tim Denshire-Key is a Melbourne based designer/ maker/ thinker. Tim works across the creative fields including exhibition work, bespoke recycled timber furniture and intermittent experimental sculptural practice.

Often Tim’s work looks into what we as a society view as waste, reworking and re-imagining into alternative outcomes to avoid or delay the landfill destination. Stories of place and customs also inform the work produced.

Alongside his design/art practice Tim has worked with a number of local and international artists, including Theo Jansen, Robbie Rowlands and Tanya Beer in a variety of capacities. He is an occasional lecturer at RMIT University on Circular Economy/ Sustainable Design for Industrial Design.
