Su is the story of a Turkish-Australian teenager dealing with rape trauma and her reluctance to reach out to her community for support. The film serves as an exploration of Turkish attitudes towards mental health. 

As the protagonist, Melek, self-isolates, her mother, Aynur, is left to reach her own conclusions about her daughter's recent strange behaviour. A single, working-class mother with limited means, Aynur turns to her faith and community for help, but her efforts, albeit well-intentioned, prove futile.

In our final year of film school, the crew and I began working on Su, which was predominantly self-funded, however, due to a myriad of set-backs and high production costs, the budget required to complete pre-production was unable to be preserved.

The funds will cover the costs of the following stages of pre-production:

• Score: $400
• Colour grade: $700
• Festival submission:  $300
• Distribution*: $200

* Upon completion, the film will be screened at Cinema Nova in Carlton for a night of shorts. All supporters will recieve an invitation to the event. 

The greatest challenge that we face is completing our film to the standards of the festivals in our sights - MIFF, HRAFF, Cannes Film Festival, SXSW and the Turkish Film Festival Australia. In order to achieve this, we must work with professional sound designers, composers and colorists, which means that the success of this film largely hinges on your support.
