Ever since we published The Melbourne Map our customers have been asking...

“Are you making The Melbourne Map Jigsaw Puzzle?” 

So, we've been on a mission to make it happen.

For many months, we’ve talked with manufacturers, visited their factories, tested prototypes, taken delivery of sample jigsaws, put them together (not so easy to do!) and designed artwork for the box. Everything is ready to go to print!

BUT, we need your help!

To ensure we can deliver your rewards before the end of November 2019, we need to pre-sell 1000 jigsaw puzzles.

Jigsaws have for many years been a favourite activity, they can be enjoyed with family and friends or alone. More recently, there's been a resurgence of their popularity as we look for alternative activities that don't include WIFI or digital devices. The Melbourne Map 1,000 piece Jigsaw Puzzle ticks all these boxes plus you'll have loads of fun discovering the intricate details within The Melbourne Map illustration. 

If you're up for some good old fashion fun, a magical challenge, time with friends and family, and a stress-free activity, we have you covered. 

There's no doubt that we'll also solve a few Kris Kringle dilemmas in the upcoming gift-giving season.

THE MELBOURNE MAP “CAN YOU FIND?” CALENDAR

As a bonus to this campaign, we're introducing this brilliantly designed "Can You Find?" Perpetual Calendar that can be started on any month in any year.  

Each month has an enlarged section of The Melbourne Map so you can really dive deep into the detail of the illustration. 

Each day has a "Can You Find?" challenge with a total of 420 things to find within the calendar pages.

Very importantly there's no waste - you can give and receive this calendar at any time of the year and begin using it.   Shops will be able to purchase with confidence knowing they won’t have to dump them in January!  Good for them, you and the environment.

Printed in Australia using environmentally responsible papers and ink.

Simply write the name of the month and year you wish to start your calendar and enter the dates in the Monday to Sunday columns.

This will take you less than one minute to do each month plus it's a great task to assign to the young ones.

FAQs

When will my Jigsaw and/or Calendar arrive? We aim to despatch before the end of November.  

Is postage included? Yes, the price you pay for the reward includes packaging and posting your jigsaw and/or calendar within Australia.  The drop-down menu will show zero if you select delivery within Australia.

Can you post overseas? Yes, we can send your jigsaw and/or calendar by airmail. Due to international shipping costs, the price for international postage will be charged at cost and is shown in the drop-down menu.

What size is the jigsaw? 1,000 pieces, measuring 688 mm x 493mm once complete.

What's included with the Jigsaw?  We've included on the base of the box, a list of Melbourne’s landmarks and points of interest and a series of things to find within the illustration.

How long will it take to finish the jigsaw?  How long is a piece of string....?  Here's an interesting article that talks about jigsaw completion times.

RISKS & CHALLENGES

There are always risks when undertaking such a project but we believe we've mitigated them. All the pre-production has been completed and only printing, packing and delivery is required.

This is what could go wrong…..  But in the words of Marie Forleo – "Everything is figureoutable"

Holdson is Australasia’s premier supplier of jigsaws and games. It's a family business currently celebrating their 80th Year of operation, supplying the world with quality jigsaws and games. We've visited their factory and feel 100% confident in their ability to deliver on time.

We’re insured for this however the stock might have to be re-manufactured so delivery would be delayed

WHO WE SUPPORT

We believe all businesses have a social responsibility to give back to the community. We have chosen to support an amazing organization called Kids Under Cover. THE MELBOURNE MAP JIGSAW

Sourcing manufacturers 

Sadly all the volume jigsaw manufacturers in Australia have closed their doors. So we ventured over to New Zealand to visit Holdson. They a family-owned business that is celebrating their 80th year as manufacturers of quality jigsaws and games.  

Box Artwork 

We designed, printed and assembled several prototypes.  These were then shown to jigsaw enthusiasts, retailers and anyone else that would listen to us waxing lyrical about this new addition to The Melbourne Map family.

Sample Jigsaw

Some sample jigsaws were cut and assembled to test the quality (the jigsaw "put-togetherer" volunteers were very much appreciated.)  

Final artwork design

Graphic designers assembled all the final elements and produced an amazing looking box.  

Packaging for posting 

Packing options were sourced, designed, sampled plus storage and labour requirements also need to be taken into account.

Freight costs 

A 20' Container will be shipped from Auckland to Melbourne.  Insurance for the shipment, domestic transport, taxes and duties and a long list of handling fees. Labour for unpacking said 20' Container, storage of a mountain of jigsaws and then packaging and posting to amazing crowdfunding supporters.

Countless hours choosing images for the inside pages, locating and recording the 420 things to find, designing and re-designing layout, sample printing, workshopping ideas and receiving feedback, changes and more changes, final graphic design, printing samples, sourcing final printers, packaging, storage, and a lot more stuff.

THIS CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN

Working out how we are going to present ourselves on Pozible, writing the script, filming the video, editing, changes and more changes, product shots, subtitles, images and graphics, files for youtube, writing the words on these pages, costing out all the rewards, anguishing over how we are going to promote, advertising costs, graphics for social media, writing launch emails, press release, Pozible fees and credit card fees.

In summary, there are months and months of work at 'map headquarters' and by our talented filmmakers and designers.

This is what we do, not to make dollars and sense, but not to lose the house either.
