The Threshold at Burning Seed 2018
The Threshold is a torus shaped LED light artwork and small ancient future temple that provides a space for quiet reflection and transformation. Inspired by Burning Seed’s 2018 theme, The Threshold is designed to bring the ancient past into the future - through the ancient symbolism of the torus and other age-old sacred geometry motifs and the ancient sigils that will be engraved onto the artwork juxtaposed with modern materials and technologies and a futuristic environment.
The intention of the artwork is to offer a transformative threshold experience helping people move from one phase of their life to another, or one phase of their personal growth to another, to shed what doesn't serve them and vision and step into what truly does.
The space will be a 2.4 metre tall torus sculpture made of loops of grey electrical conduit poly pipe lit up with morphing light patterns of multicoloured waterproof LED strips, controlled by microcontroller logics to shift and change in response to people moving into the centre of the torus space. The changes will be triggered by motion sensors in the doorway and centre of the space. The light patterns will shift between a blue & whitish watery style pattern for reflection and red, orange, yellow, & white for fire. Plus they’ll also cut loose with weirder patterning at different times like during and after the Effigy burn.
The central chamber of the Torus will be a small space for personal reflection, approximately 2.4 metres in diameter. The central chamber will fit 2-3 people comfortable and will be a place for quiet reflection. It will be surrounded with acrylic mirrors carved with sigils of transformation – symbols that hold a historic significance in fostering transformation. The mirrors will be fairly thin and a little translucent, so the light will shine through them too.
The space will also have a sound art soundtrack activated by the motion sensor which will be designed to foster deep reflection and positive transformation.
We have been very generously funded by Burning Seed's Artery to the tune of $4000 however require at least an an additional $800 to make this project work, on top of the money we are personally investing in it.

A hug in one of the filthy cuddle piles at Seed
Any donation to our project will earn you the consensual hug of your choice, or not. It's really up to you. Our gratitude is non-negotiable, you're getting it whatever the case.
Add whatever symbol you like to The Threshold
Print whatever you like on an acrylic sticker to be stuck on one of the small mirrors hanging in The Threshold's centre ring. It could be the sacred symbol of your choice, or a dick, or a very basic picture of your mum (if so, your mum is probably very basic).
Get your own custom made LED flame ring lamp
We will make you your own LED flame effects ring lamp with sacred geometry string decoration and draping. This will be a one of a kind lamp, controlled by arduino. It will come with a flame effect colour sequence programmed into it but it will also be adaptable and customisable over time to whatever you can program into an arduino mini controller.
Take home a special spicy liqueur of your choice
The Threshold crew are part of the Sydney theme camp Spice Cadets and we know how to make a delicious drop. Take home a 300mL bottle of a custom spicy liqueur - just tell us what your favourite spices and/or fruits are and we'll mix something delicious up.
