Cathy's I can't do this alone, I need your support!

This Pozible crowdfunder is to cover the event hosting costs to run The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, an en masse public dance performance to Kate Bush's iconic 1978 hit Wuthering Heights in Kings Domain, Melbourne and to provide at manufacture cost complete, authentic and affordable red Kate Bush costumes for anyone that wants them.

If you already have a costume from last year we still need your pledge to help us reach our target, it allows us to plan and pay for the hosting so we can all reexperience the joy and exhilaration of dancing with thousands of other Cathys at Kings Domain that we had last year.

TMWHDE is a non profit community event aiming at increasing joy and unity and any funds raised above what is needed to hire and host the day and cover manufacture costs will be donated on behalf of participants to Safe Steps Victoria to help support women and children victims of family violence.

ABOUT THE EVENT

On the 16th July 2016 all over the world people of all genders and ages dressed up in red dresses, red tights, and roses and gathered in public spaces to dance to Kate Bush's timeless classic Wuthering Heights.

This inaugral TMWHDE was the brainchild of Sam Waring in Berlin who was inspired by UK performance artists Shambush's world record breaking en masse joyous interpretive dance on May 25th 2013 when over 300 'Cathys' descended on Stanmer Park in Brighton, in what was then The Ultimate Kate Bush Experience.

Last year Melbourne had the largest turn out of all the global events with over 2200 registered dancers. This year we hope we can get even more to come wuther together on Saturday 15th July 2017.

ABOUT THE COSTUME

I creating the pattern for the 'Cathy' dress by analyzing the 1978 music video frame by frame, capturing dozens of screenshots to make sure I created an outfit as authentic to the original worn by Kate Bush as possible.

I settled on a mid weight chiffon as it has a lovely flow in dance and is slightly sheer. The beauty of the dress is that it is a wrap and therefore can adjust to many body shapes and sizes. The major consideration was length, so I created three sizes to fit across a spectrum of men, women and children, Here is the size guide.

Since the pictures I've already shared, and after consultation, experimentation and trying it on pretty much anyone I come in contact with, I've added extra armhole width to the bishop sleeves for an even more billowy effect. The cuffs have been made adjustable and trimmed with a pair of pearlescent cream buttons as in the original.

The major challenge was the pixie hemline, which has required a quite tricky specialty machine cutting technique so as not to fray but also not need edging which would warp the points and distort movement.

The final dress is supremely comfortable and flattering and I am not shy to say that I am extremely proud of it. I hope you love as much as I do!

ABOUT DELIVERY

After selecting your reward you can choose to have them posted using Australia Post or opt for free pick up, I will arrange some pick up locations around Melbourne closer to the event and let everyone know, or they can be collected from my home in Upper Beaconsfield. 

If people are choosing multiple rewards then I will combine postage and credit back any excess paid.
I strongly urge backers to try join up with friends and and then I can save you all on the postage costs by delivering all outfits to a single address and then they can be handed out from there.

ABOUT SUPPORTING THE EVENT & SAFE STEPS

We are providing theses costumes as rewards at manufacture plus customs cost, it is NOT a profiteering exercise, I am personally donating my time and effort as a labor of love in dispatch of rewards and to bring this event back to Melbourne this year due to the overwhelming requests of last year's attendees.

In order to put on the event for a similar sized crowd as last year there are considerable expenses that must be covered, please see the How The Funds Will Be Used section below for a breakdown of costs. 

We have also applied to The City Of Melbourne for an Event Partnership Program grant, however we won't know the outcome of this until the 2nd July so we must raise the funds first in order to ensure we can go ahead, If we do get their sponsorship then the hosting money we raised will instead be donated on behalf of all attendees to Safe Steps Victoria to help them continue their amazing work supporting victims of domestic violence.  

TMWHDE is first and foremost to have fun and as invited on the Shambush event page  "join us for a seriously silly day dedicated to the works of the incredible Kate Bush"
 
Whilst we are offering a limited number of below cost single $45 costumes to kick things off, we encourage backers to check in on their local event; Facebook makes it very easy to see if you have mutual friends going; so get in touch with your friends and arrange to go in together for the 'Dance With Somebody' reward, this is by far the best value and it will still help us to put on this incredible fun and vibrant community art project.

Our major obstacle is time! If people want this costume to wear on the 15th July 2017 at their local event then I will need all orders in by the 13th April 2017when this campaign closes, so I can make my bulk order and allow enough time for manufacture and delivery so I can post them off to all corners of the globe to arrive in time for all backers to be Cathy'd up on the big day!
