My name is David Young and I'm a composer based in Melbourne, Australia. I've been running a small arts company for more than 20 years, most recently as Artistic Director of Chamber Made Opera. This year I decided to take a break from running an opera company, and run a marathon instead. The Reykjavik Marathon in Iceland to be precise, which is on 24th of August.
Now it's pretty daunting for me, the idea of running a marathon. I used to compete as a gymnast, and gymnasts don't do anything for more than 30 seconds. So the thought of trying to do something for hours at a time seemed utterly impossible. But a few years ago I started running, and basically I haven't stopped since. Amazing what training can do.
When both Margaret and I have finished our respective marathons - which happen to finish at almost exactly the same time - we plan to do what we love doing most - make some art. I can think of nothing more therapeutic, and so we are going to call it 'Opera-therapea'.

To create 'Opera-therapea', we are working with three remarkable women: Alexander Technique teacher, dance movement therapist and dancer Jane Refshauge; choreographer and performer Hellen Sky; and soprano Deborah Kayser. As usual when Margaret and I embark on a new project, we have no idea what it will become. The five of us began exploring what this new work might be on the Queen's Birthday long weekend and we made some discoveries that got us all pretty excited. I am sure that Opera-therapea is going to be strange and beautiful and full of questions.

Once we have created Opera-therapea it will become part of Chamber Made Opera's increasingly successful Living Room Opera series, which has already commissioned and presented twelve new chamber operas literally in people's living rooms.
If you are able to help us create 'Opera-therapea' by donating to this Pozible campaign, I'd be incredibly grateful. Not only will it help Margaret get back on her feet, but it will be bringing a completely new work of art - maybe even a new artform - into existence.
Thank you so much for your support. Now, I better get back to training...
