Bigmouth Funnels - invented by Robin Bristow in June 2012.

I needed a solution to the problem I had when transferring jams and chutney I made into bottles - thus the larger funnel was created. I designed the smaller funnel to solve the problem of refilling salt and pepper grinders. Their most outstanding feature is that they pack flat and can be used for foodstuffs that standard funnels cannot be used for eg: rice, oats, spices etc. Using an Australian manufactured polypropylene and a local laser company I commenced manufacture and sales of the funnels through a few retail outlets in Sydney, Brisbane and Noosa as well as online.

To establish how the broader design community viewed the function and aesthetics of the Bigmouth Funnels I entered them into several design competitions. They were very successful - winning the 2012 Sydney Design Awards and were awarded Good Design® by the judges of the 2013 Australian International Design Awards.

I have been steadily growing the profile of the funnels within the foodie community of Australia through their presence at the Noosa International Food and Wine Festival and as well as through Facebook and Instagram.

The funnels are now set to move to their next logical stage which requires a change in manufacturing technique. The funnels are best suited to be die cut and this requires making a specially manufactured die plate. This process is faster and cheaper than the current laser cutting process and will also allow the funnels to be embossed with their manufacturing details and recycling number. For this I would require $ 3500 for the set up of this new process. I also would like to raise a further $ 1500 for the finalisation of the Trademark process I have initiated on the Bigmouth Funnels name.
